Rozmawiać (+ z instrumental) - talking to / with someone

The verb for talking / chatting / conversing is rozmawiać (impf) and porozmawiać (pf)

For talking / chatting to someone it is useful to think of it as conversing with them and then, because we
are using z (with) we should remember that what follows is in the instrumental case.

🇵🇱 Po rozmawia tylko z dzieckiem rano i po południu, mama naprawdę potrzybuje rozmawiać z dorosłymi

🇬🇧 After only talking to the baby in the morning and afternoon, Mum really needs to talk with adults.

To get a cob on - co to znaczy?

To get a cob on ... what does it mean and where did the expression come from? Po prostu, -  get a cob on -  to znaczy wpadać w złość / być w złym humorze. Most English people will be familiar with this expression, to get a cob on is to be annoyed, to be in a bad mood. The word cob is an old word to describe something rounded or globular, a lump of something.  This explains the use of cob in the expression I'm sweating cobs which means the beads of sweat are large. Cobble stones on old roads owe their name to this meaning too. Cob also describes the cylindrical shoot on which grains of maize / corn grow, hence: corn on the cob. How about the origin of the expression to get a cob on ?  Well, I guess there will be plenty of theories, but the official line from the Oxford English Dictionary is that the origin is unknown.  It has been seen in print as early as 1937, in E. Partridge's Dictionary of Slang .

😊😔 In English we respond to someone telling us about how well or badly they are doing with little phrases like: I'm glad or Oh, I am sorry to hear that How about in Polish?  What do you want first, the good news or the bad? Let's start with the bad news.  Someone has just told you that they are feeling unwell. Przykro mi to słyszeć - I'm sorry to hear that or just Przykro mi - I'm sorry With any luck, a few days later they will tell us that they are feeling much better. Cieszę się - I'm glad To super - That's super To świetnie - That's great Cieszę się, że jest ci lepiej - I'm glad you are better Cieszę się, że lepiej się czujesz - I'm glad you are feeling better.
